Velupillai Prabhakaran - The Fall of the Tiger in Srilanka

About Velupillai Prabhakaran
Velupillai Prabhakaran was a phenomenon in Sri Lanka for over two decades. His daring exploits against the government for the cause of the alienated Tamils there made a halo of a savior around him. Basking in the sunshine of world sympathy he succeeded in ruthlessly eliminating some of his enemies, and getting many thousand Tamils ready for the glorious sacrifice. Blood flowed freely in Lanka, and he blundered.
Many a journalist penned many books eulogizing his determination and dedication to the liberation of the perennially exploited Tamils in Sri Lanka. Over the years he amassed enough money and means that enabled him take on the combined might of Sri Lankan army and Indian peace Keeping Force as well.
The initial enthusiasm among the Tamils began to vane as they lost their children in teens in thousands. Then came the conscription through intimidation. The hapless mothers – if I borrow Shakespeare’s words – could only smile when they beheld their infants quartered with the hands of war!
3 Mistakes of Velupillai Prabhakaran
The Tiger leader committed three fatal strategic errors.
- The first was his marriage to a beauty abducted from a campus. A charming wife among robust daredevils of his bachelor lieutenants was reason enough to saw seeds of suspicion in his mind.
- There is no other reason for branding Mahathia, the second in command a traitor, and his execution later. This heinous crime would have sent a chill down the spine of everyone of his associates including Colonel Karuna.
- The next was cutting LTTE’s umbilical cord off by masterminding the assassination of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It put an abrupt end to the moral and material support from India to tigers. Sending a tiger delegation to Norway for mediating a truce between LTTE and the government was the whistle to the final blow to the Tiger movement. Prabhakaran’s close associates falling a prey to worldly temptations during their stay in Norway leading to the betrayal of their leader cannot be ruled out.
The end of the play came very fast. Karuna defected. Prabhakaran’s outright rejection of limited freedom offered on a silver tray by the government through the Norwegian team helped world opinion in favour of President Rajapakse. And the war machines moved fast. The fractured LTTE was no match for Sri Lankan military might. Rest is history.
The three mistakes attribute to V.Prabakaran are new to me, but reasonable. No soldier should lead a family in the middle of other fighters. Family and war should always be separate. In ancient Tamil history, when war starts, the king will move the aged, women and children, cattle and foodgrains to safer places.
Velupillai Prabhakaran died but history will never forget him. He fought for a noble cause and sacrificed his life and set an example for others.
Our brother velupillai prabakaran didnt die.. he sowes a seed which creates 10000 s of prabakarans and time will answer the questions about the genocide in sri lanka and the problems...

Whatever the reasons attributed to LTTE's fall, the moral and material support of the Indian government to Srilankan government is the main reason. India was supporting LTTE till 1986. Rajiv Gandhi even threatened to sink ships coming against Indian aid ship, going to feed the poor affected Tamils. Then he sent airforce planes to airdrop aid packets to the people. Then came the cursed man called R.Venkatraman, taking over as India's President. He changed Rajiv's mind. The theory against Tamils attributed to a small gang in Tamilnadu is this: If a homeland is created for the Tamils in Ealam, the Tamils in India, who once demanded separation till 1962, will get revived and the fighting will shift to India. Believing this, Rajiv sent the IPKF in the garb of saving Tamils and took on Tamils. The IPKF atrocities could have made LTTE to decide Rajiv's elimination. But it was a great blunder!
Whatever it may be, V.Prabakaran will be remembered for ever in the millenniums-old Tamil history. After all, our forefathers saw a brave fighter called Veerapandia Kattabomman being hanged in front of his people, for opposing English rule. This can be another tragedy for the Tamils, who one day will regain their lost glory.
