71Environment Friendly Funeral Programme
Which is the most harmful pollutant for nature? If we think, we will get many answers. Carbon dioxide, plastic, computer parts, Mercury…like that lots of pollutants. The reason for all the wastes reaching the surrounding environment is one & one only. Humans. The world population reaching around 70 million is only the biggest hindrance for against waste control.
Then also we can get relief from the fact that there are serious discussions & actions taken against environmental pollution. As the population increases there is a great challenge in the burial of human dead bodies. When the bodies are covered & buried itself there is huge scale pollution according to environmental activists. The mercury present in the materials used for filling the cavities in the teeth will seep through the soil & pollute the underground water which is a main cause of pollution. When the dead bodies are burnt green house gases like nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide etc are being released.
Not only that, in many countries there is a problem of lack of land availability which makes it difficult to bury the bodies. In this context only, the concept of environment friendly funeral came into being.

The new method is to bury the body after immersing the same in cold liquid nitrogen. This method will be followed in Britain pretty soon. The body is immersed in liquid form of nitrogen having a temperature of -196 degree Celsius. Then the body is taken out & kept on a vibrating table. By doing so, the body will turn into dust. This method is known as ‘Promession’. This method is going to be started in Britain to overcome the problem of lack of land availability to bury the bodies. Sweden has already been granted the rights to bury the bodies using this method. It is believed that very soon this method will be used in many more countries.

there should be a continuous mass media campaign for green burial with promession method. there could be govt subsidy on this to encourage people.
And exactly what happens to the mercury and other toxins in this process? It would seem all the remains are still contaminated.
When I was reading this, I had two main questions. HistoriCUSS already asked the first one - if the teeth and bones also disintegrate, wouldn't the whole pile become contaminated with mercury from the fillings? My second question is - Wouldn't the dust then turn to mush when it thawed?
